The solar powered electric Boat Bus « Camille » began operating in 2007 by the express wish of H.R.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, our monarch, for whom protecting the environment constitutes a major challenge. The Boat Bus connects Monaco-Ville and Monte-Carlo quickly, easily and ecologically. It transports over 110 000 passengers annualy.
2 german electric engines
FISHER PANDA - 2 X 10 Kw
24 batteries type AGM of 12 V/220 Ah
+ 2 batteries of the same type for the « Service »
Each engine requires 48 volts.
Inside the boat, there are 24 batteries, type AGM (Absored Glass Mat battery) of 12 V / 220 Ah, divided in 6 packs of 4 batteries.
For each engine : 3 packs (of 4 batteries mounted in series) are connected in parallel during the working day.
These batteries are charged overnight by 6 battery chargers, fed by the electric current of the platform (3 on each side to feed all the 3 packs which are disconnected after the working day).
2 additional batteries of the same type, charged by a separate charger, ensure the « Service » (radio, VHF, lighting …)
the totality of batteries are also recharged during the working day via the solar panels disposed on the roof of the boat which is an effective supplement to the night charging.
The Boat Bus « Camille » is in operation all year round, from 8 am (first depature from Quai des Etats Unis) to 20 pm (last depature at 7:50 pm from Quai Antoine Ier), except for the May 1st, during Monaco Grand Prix in May and during Monaco Yacht Show in September, which means 352 days in the year, at a rate of 12 hours per day !
